چکیده
Abstract This paper reports on particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements in compressible accelerated wake flows generated by two different central injector types, which are mounted a convergent-divergent nozzle. The injectors differ the extent of their trailing edge located either subsonic (injector A) or supersonic flow region B). In addition, undisturbed nozzle without is studied as reference case. PIV results reveal typical structures expected and B) flows. They further show that Reynolds stresses $$\mathrm {Re_{xx}}$$ Re xx {Re_{yy}}$$ yy significantly decay all three cases due to strong acceleration throughout Interestingly, case A, stays non-isotropic with {Re_{yy}}>\mathrm > also far downstream region. These were motivated lack velocity data needed validate numerical simulations. That why this additionally contains from (unsteady) Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes ((U)RANS) simulations investigated experimentally. URANS simulation A able accurately predict entire field periodic fluctuations at centerline. However, B, RANS underestimates centerline about $$4\%$$ 4 % .

Application of a Particle Image Velocimetry System to the Investigation of Unsteady Transonic Flows in Turbomachinery
In the present paper a study of the time dependent transonic flow field around a single compressor blade in a Laval nozzle is presented. For the investigation the PIV method has been employed because of its ability to deliver instantaneous flow field information across an illuminated plane with high spatial and temporal resolution. From these instantaneous PIV measurements the mean velocity fie...
متن کاملScheimpflug stereocamera for particle image velocimetry in liquid flows.
A novel stereocamera has been developed based on the angular-displacement method, wherein the two camera axes are oriented in a nonorthogonal manner toward the object plane. The stereocamera satisfies the Scheimpflug condition such that the image plane, the object plane, and the lens plane are nominally colinear. A unique feature of the stereocamera is the introduction of a liquid prism between...
متن کاملMicro-particle image velocimetry for velocity profile measurements of micro blood flows.
Micro-particle image velocimetry (μPIV) is used to visualize paired images of micro particles seeded in blood flows. The images are cross-correlated to give an accurate velocity profile. A protocol is presented for μPIV measurements of blood flows in microchannels. At the scale of the microcirculation, blood cannot be considered a homogeneous fluid, as it is a suspension of flexible particles s...

متن کاملMultiphase Particle Image Velocimetry Measurements in a Bubble Column
In this study the use of particle image velocimetry (PIV) in multiphase ows is described. Velocity elds are measured of both the continuous and the dispersed phase in a bubble column. From the measurements, turbulence characteristics like the strain rate and mutual correlations between gas and liquid velocities can be derived for the validation of numerical simulations.
